A Barrier Comes Down
One of the things we have learned in walking with low-income single mothers is that there are really three barriers that more often than not hold the family back from achieving financial self sufficiency. They are access to a job that pays a self-sufficiency standard; not just minimum wage, access to reliable and affordable childcare, and access to reliable transportation. Well at The Restoration House we are trying to help break down these barriers and others by working hand in hand with our participating families.
This last month we received a very generous donation of a 2001 Ford Focus. This car just came in time as one of our moms was at risk of losing her job because of some things making it difficult for her to come in to work. One of those things was a car that would not start and it was going to take a fortune to get it running again. For Lydia this car means she can now wake up each morning with confidence know that at least one wrench has been taken out of her day.
Here is what she had to say,
"Thank you so much for working so hard in helping me with my car drama. The end result is outstanding! Maddie and I can now enjoy the everyday car ride to work and school in our new dependable vehicle! We can never fully think the family who donated this car. It changes everything!"
